The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has announced that it will inject USD 500 million into the foreign exchange market during the first quarter of the 2026/27 fiscal year through a series of bi-weekly foreign exchange (FX) auctions.
According to a press release issued on July 22, 2026, the central bank will conduct four FX auctions, each offering USD 125 million, beginning on August 12, 2026.

The bi-weekly auctions are part of the NBE’s ongoing foreign exchange management framework aimed at improving transparency and supporting the allocation of foreign currency within Ethiopia’s financial system.
The National Bank of Ethiopia stated that the USD 500 million allocation covers the first quarter of FY 2026/27, with auctions scheduled every two weeks beginning in mid-August.
