Meftihe Microfinance S.C., MZ Tech, and Arifpay Financial Technologies S.C. have officially launched Kisse, a new agent-powered digital lending platform designed to improve access to finance for Ethiopia’s micro and small businesses through a relationship-based lending model.
The platform brings together the three organizations in a partnership where Meftihe Microfinance serves as the licensed lender, MZ Tech provides and operates the Kisse digital lending platform, while Arifpay facilitates loan disbursements, repayments, and payment processing through its nationwide payment infrastructure.
Unlike conventional lending models that rely heavily on physical collateral, Kisse introduces what its founders describe as a social capital-based lending system, allowing borrowers to access loans based on trust, community relationships, and referrals.
Speaking at the launch, Rediet, CEO of Arifpay, said the platform aims to redefine microfinance in Ethiopia by leveraging trusted community networks rather than traditional collateral requirements.
Under the model, borrowers can visit a registered merchant agent, present their Fayda ID for Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, and apply for financing. Once approved by Meftihe Microfinance, loan proceeds are disbursed digitally through Arifpay’s payment system directly to the borrower.
The platform utilizes local merchant agents as the primary customer touchpoints, enabling businesses and individuals to access financing within their communities. In addition to business lending, Kisse plans to introduce referral-based lending, where trusted individuals recommend borrowers, strengthening accountability through community relationships.
Officials said the platform is designed to support entrepreneurs and underserved borrowers who often lack conventional collateral or formal financial records, while promoting financial inclusion across Ethiopia.
According to the partners, Kisse currently has no fixed lending ceiling, with financing determined through the platform’s assessment process. Loan amounts can reach up to Birr 3 million for eligible borrowers.
The three companies said the initiative supports Ethiopia’s digital financial transformation by combining licensed lending, financial technology, and digital payment infrastructure into a single ecosystem.
The partners believe Kisse will expand access to affordable credit for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises while introducing a locally developed digital lending solution built around trust, community relationships, and agent-based financial services.
