Awash Bank has announced that it supplied over $125 million USD in foreign exchange to its customers during the month of July 2025, demonstrating its continued commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s economic growth and easing the ongoing foreign currency shortage.
According to a statement from the bank, more than $70 million of the total amount was allocated for fuel imports, while the remaining $55 million was used to finance the import of other strategic commodities essential to the country. The bank also reaffirmed its policy of giving priority to essential foreign exchange payments, including education and medical expenses.
Awash Bank emphasized that it remains committed to transparency in foreign exchange transactions and to playing a constructive role in addressing the country’s foreign exchange challenges.
“The Bank currently has sufficient foreign currency reserves to meet the needs of its customers,” the statement noted, adding that Awash Bank will continue to provide the forex it has on hand responsibly and equitably.
The move highlights Awash Bank’s growing influence in Ethiopia’s financial sector and its role in ensuring access to foreign exchange for key sectors of the economy.
